Women. They have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. This International Women's Month, we celebrate the characters that redefined femininity as its greatest form. The film industry is one of the venues where women have been celebrated for their artistry and magnificence. Film has played a great role in influencing the lives of women--fictional or not. We've seen the characterization of women evolve on screen, the roles getting more and more diverse each day. Here are Prime's Greatest Women In Film.

Brandy as Cinderella (1997)

Brandy's televised version of Cinderella was groundbreaking as she became the first black princess to be shown on screen. Not only did she revolutionize the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, but the film also featured one of the most diverse casts for a film at the time--with Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, and even a Filipino Prince Charming with Paolo Montalban! This very film enabled more Cinderella remakes to adopt a more diverse take, and trust us – Brandy's Cinderella was way ahead of her time.

Rita Moreno as Anita in West Side Story (1960) Here's to our sister figures! In her Oscar-winning role, veteran theater actress Rita Moreno delivers through song and dance in West Side Story. The sass and charisma she brought on-screen are evident in her relationship with Bernardo, and her wonderful bond with Bernardo's sister, Maria. Anita assists Maria with all kinds of things from relationship advice to the outfits she's bound to wear--all with the elegant flair that charms you over. One look at her "America" number will dazzle you can be enough. After all, she is the first Latina to win an Oscar!

Uma Thurman as The Bride in Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) & Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

Uma Thurman's portrayal of The Bride in Kill Bill is proof of how a mother is willing to fight to protect her daughter, literally and figuratively! Combined with the most epic action scenes in the iconic Black-and-Yellow tracksuit, The Bride redefines feminine physicality in true fashion. The renowned duology follows The Bride, an assassin who is in search of her daughter while she wreaks vengeance on those who betrayed her. Una Thurman brings The Bride to life with a motherly tenderness peppered with tons of action--more than enough to convince you that women ace these stunts quite effortlessly.

Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

Studio Ghibli has given us more than enough female characters to look up to, but Kiki highlights the wonderful simplicity in every girl. Kiki, a witch-in-training, starts a delivery service delivering goods to the people of Koriko. Along with her cat, Jiji, she sets off to make friends around the town and learn the true value of independence. Kiki's day-to-day activities touch innocence at its core, with the bonds of friendship she's made along the way. If anything, Kiki is a breath of fresh air.

Saoirse Ronan as Jo March in Little Women (2019) The true icon of feminism herself. In the 2019 version of the Louisa May Alcott classic, Saoirse Ronan redefines what it truly means to be a woman in the film directed by Greta Gerwig. We follow her as she navigates ambition, fear, love, and family. The iconic monologue she delivers at the film's climax is enough to fully encapsulate what women are made of.
